HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra University’s Ryan Carmichael scored his third goal of the season in the first half but Stony Brook University equalized as the team settled for a 1-1 draw Saturday night in a Coastal Athletic Association game at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Hofstra moved to 3-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in CAA play. The Seawolves are 1-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference action.

The hosts played nearly 17 minutes with a man advantage following a red card to Stony Brook before a Hofstra red with less than three minutes forced the teams to finish 10-on-10.

Carmichael, Hofstra’s leading scorer, headed in a long service from Stefan Mason at 18:39. Stony Brook’s Jonas Bickus responded at 25:29 as he took a pass from Bas Beckhoven and dribbled into the box before sending a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel.

Each team had chances in the second half. The Pride had 12 of their 19 shots in the final 45 minutes but all four on target shots were saved by Edmond Kaiser. The Seawolves had five shots in the second half with Speel stopping the only two on goal.

Speel finished with four saves. Kaiser recorded nine stops.

The Pride, which is 19-12-7 against the Seawolves, had a 19-8 shot advantage and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts UMBC in a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
