In a game between two teams from Long Island, Barca Academy Pro defeated East Coast FC, 5-1, to win the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association Boys Under-12 State Open Cup championship at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y. on June 3.

The cup’s namesake, Luis Montoya, founded the Big Apple Youth Soccer League in 1997 to serve the growing number of soccer families who recently arrived in New York City. He had two tours of duty as Trustee of ENYYSA before his passing two years ago. Luis’ daughter, Carrine Molite, handed out the awards.

Andres Valenzuela recorded a hat-trick. Joshua Medina and Rocco Suraci added goals.

“Every player gave 200 percent and this was a very good result for us especially since we had lost, 4-0, to East Coast in EDP league play,” Barca Academy head coach Narcis Alu Ferrer said.

Barca Academy will represent ENY at the East Regionals in Loudoun County, Virginia from June 23-29 as part of the National Championship Series.
