John Dugan, who worked for the MetroStars and Cosmos, passed away on Monday night, May 1.

He was surrounded by his family when he passed away.

Dugan, one of the first employees of the rebooted Cosmos, had suffered from a brain tumor and complications.

He was married to Jeannette Dugan and has a 14-year-old daughter Lucie. He entered palliative care in October.

His cousin, Kristy Dugan, who initiated a GoFundMe page for Dugan and his family wrote this on the organization’s website:

“Last night, around 11:25, Johnny passed away peacefully with Lucie holding his hand and Jeanette and myself around him. It was such a beautiful transition from such a horrible cancer. Johnny was in awe of all of the love and donations everyone gave to him. He was so worried you all would think he was spending it on non sense (that was the glioblastoma) and Jeanette and I would have to reinforce the fact that no one would ever think that and laugh. As you all know his heart was made of gold and at one point he frantically text me and said when I go maybe you should donate all of the money to a dog shelter – I told him that this money was for Jeanette and Lu to help them and not to worry.”

Services will be held at Browns Funeral Home in Nutley, N.J. on Friday, May 5 from 5-8 p.m. ET.
Browns Funeral Home.

The funeral home is located at 267 Centre Street in Nutley, N.J. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that people donate to their favorite Cancer charity or Dog Rescue, “two of Johnny’s favorite things,” Kristy Dugan said.

Dugan’s family also will hold a celebration of life in the next month or two.
