Joe Scally isn’t going anywhere.

The former New York City FC player and Lake Grove, N.Y. resident will be playing with Borussia Mönchengladbach through the 2027 Bundesliga season.

Borussia announced on Thursday that it had extended the U.S. international defender’s contract another year.

“Joe has developed really well with us. He quickly made the transition from being a talented youngster in our U-23s to a regular for the first team, and even made the US World Cup squad,” sporting director Roland Virkus said in a statement. “This is a great example of the journey we want our promising youngsters signed from other clubs to take. This contract extension acknowledges his development, which we want to continue supporting in the future.”

Scally joined Mönchengladbach in January 2021 and played 15 times for Borussia’s U-23s squad in the fourth division. His Bundesliga debut came at home against FC Bayern on Aug. 13 2021 in a 1-1 draw.

His first top-flight goal – and only to date – was in that same season during a 3-1 away win against VfL Wolfsburg.

Scally has played 56 times in the Bundesliga and five games in the DFB-Pokal (one goal). The defender was called up to the U.S. national team for the first time in November 2021 and won his first cap on June 2, 2022 against Morocco. He has played four times for his country.

“The most important thing for me is to be playing regularly. Borussia give me the chance to do that and help my development as a player,” Scally said in a statement. “The club presented me with a clear plan regarding my future during our conversations. I’m pleased to be staying at Borussia.”
