Hofstra University senior soccer player Hendrik Hebbeker has been named the 2022-23 Colonial Athletic Association Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Hebbeker, who also earned the award last season, was chosen through a vote by the CAA Academic Affairs Committee.

A native of Cologne, Germany, Hebbeker has compiled a 3.98 grade-point average with a double major in mathematics and physics. He earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-America first team honors in 2021 and 2022, and was selected to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America first team in 2021. Hebbeker was a member of the Hofstra Provost’s list (4.0 GPA) in seven of eight semesters and was on the Hofstra Athletic Director Scholars Academic Honor Roll and CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll during every semester. He also earned the 2022 Dr. James M. Shuart Award as Hofstra’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

On the field this past season Hebbeker started 15 of 18 games for the Pride, which repeated as CAA champions. He recorded two goals, including one game-winning goal, and three assists for seven points. In 2021, Hebbeker was named a second team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches after posting nine goals and tying for the team lead with 11 assists. He was also a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the nation’s top collegiate player, and made both the All-CAA first team and the All-ECAC first team after leading Hofstra to an 18-2-2 mark, a CAA Championship, and the third round of the NCAA Championship.

Hebbeker started 77 of 90 games and finished his tenure with 17 goals and 20 assists. The 20 assists rank eighth all-time at Hofstra.

In honor of his accomplishment, Hebbeker will receive a $1,000 stipend along with a crystal award. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in theoretical physics.
