St. John’s women’s head coach Ian Stone announced the signing of graduate transfer Sydney Moore from Boston College on Wednesday.
Moore makes her way to Queens, N.Y. following a career at BC playing against top competition in the Atlantic Coast Conference for four seasons. The defender appeared in 52 games and logged more than 2,000 minutes on the Eagles’ backline.
“We recruited Sydney [Moo before she played at Boston College and watched her play with a number of our players in summer,” Stone said in a statement. “Sydney is a fantastic soccer player, student and person. We are very excited to bring her to St. John’s women’s soccer.”
During her freshman year, she started 14 of 18 possible matches. She finished the year ranking seventh on the team in minutes played and third amongst freshmen.
Over the next two seasons, the Farmingdale, N.Y., native continued to contribute, mainly in a reserve role, appearing in 24 contests.
In her final season in Chestnut Hill, Moore played in 12 games and earned two starts. On Senior Day on Oct. 27, 2022, she started and played a season-high 74 minutes, leading the Eagles backline to a 1-1 draw with Wake Forest.
The Long Island product enjoyed a decorated high school career. Moore earned All-American honors out of Farmingdale High School her senior year. She also earned first team All-State, All-Long Island first team was the Conference AA-1 Player of the Year in her final season. She finished her Farmingdale career with 29 goals and 27 assists over her career.
On the national stage, Moore competed in the 2016 ODP Soccer National Championship and was invited to the national team training camp, hosted by U.S. Soccer that same year.
Moore will join a Red Storm squad that finished the 2022 campaign with a 7-5-7 record and advanced to the Big East semifinals.
