The Red Bulls have signed University of Connecticut defender and Elmont, N.Y. native Jayden Reid to a one-year MLS Homegrown contract with options for three more seasons, the club announced Wednesday.

The 5-11, 170-lb. Reid was a member of the Long Island Rough Riders team that reached the USL League Two final. He competed in all five playoff games.

“We are pleased to add Jayden [Reid] to our roster and welcome him back to the club,” sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement. “Jayden is a dynamic midfielder and we are excited to see him with us next season.”

Reid, 21, has spent the last four years at UConn, where he appeared in 51 matches and recorded three goals and seven assists. During his junior season, Reid scored three goals and tallied five assists in 16 appearances. This past season, the defender made 13 appearances and registered one assist.

“Jayden has previous experience with our Academy and knows our style of play,” head coach Gerhard Struber said in a statement. “We are excited to see what he can do during preseason and continue to help him develop.”

Reid spent five years in Red Bulls Academy, where he started with the U-12’s. He the 29th Homegrown signing in franchise history and the fourth during this year. Reid also was the sixth New York native on the 2023 roster.
