St. John’s University players Melina Couzis and Katherine Turner were named to the Big East women’s All-Tournament Team.

Couzis, a University of Connecticyt transfer, played a big part in the Red Storm advancing past the Huskies in the first round of the Big East Championship. The midfielder was the catalyst to the Johnnies’ equalizing goal in regulation, sending a ball into the penalty area that eventually found Isabelle Aviza for the score.

Couzis appeared in 18 matches with 14 starts and tied for the team lead in assists (five). The Baldwin Place, N.Y. native added a goal in the 2-0 win over Navy on Sept. 2.

Turner was an integral part of the defense throughout the regular season and the tournament. The graduate student started every game this season at center back.

She logged the most playing time of any field player with 1,749 minutes in 19 matches. This was the second consecuctive year the London native has landed a spot on the tournament team after earning the distinction in 2021 when the Red Storm advanced to the final against Georgetown University.
