The St. John’s University women saw their season draw to a close with a 3-1 extratime loss to Xavier University in the semifinals of the Big East Championship at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. on Thursday evening.

Molly McLaughlin and Chloe Netzel scored in the first extratime for the Musketeers

Jessica Garziano scored her fourth goal of the campaign, tying her for the team lead with Nicole Gordon. The senior midfielder finished with the squad-high in individual points with 13.

After the Musketeers controlled possession in the opening 20 minutes, the Red Storm was awarded a free kick in the 23rd minute. Garziano drilled a ground ball that sneaked through the traffic and found its way to the bottom right corner of the net to give the Johnnies a 1-0 advantage. It was Garziano’s fourth goal and 13th point of the season.

In the 79th minute, Emma Flick buried the ball into the top corner as Xavier tied things up at 1-1.

The Musketeers pulled away in the first extratime period, scoring twice through McLaughlin and Netzel.
