The St. John’s women University women clinched a spot in the Big East tournament as it extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-1 draw with Marquette University at Belson Stadium on Sunday.

The Red Storm moved to 7-4-6, 4-2-3 BIG EAST while Marquette is 7-7-3, 3-4-2.

Nicole Gordon scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, and Melina Couzis tallied her fourth assist of the year.

Goalkeeper Gina Muzi made her 17th start, making two saves on Senior Day.

In the 21st minute Couzis found Gordon on the left side of the penalty area, and the forward sent the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead at 24:35.

Marquette refused to go down without a fight as two shots by Isabella Cook and Alex Campana clanged off the crossbar in 76th minute.

Following two consecutive corner kicks, Marquette found pay dirt on a third set piece in the 84th minute as Elsi Twombly scored off an assist from Mia Haertle.

The Red Storm will close out the regular season, visiting DePaul University on Thursday at 4 p.m.
