Gabrielle Cote scored her second goal of the game to break a 1-1 tie as the Stony Brook University women defeated Hofstra University, 2-1, in a Colonial Athletic Association game at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The loss snapped Hofstra’s two-game winning streak and its 12-match winning streak over the Seawolves.

Hofstra ended the regular season at 8-7-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the CAA. The Pride did clinch a CAA Championship berth despite the loss as a draw between UNCW and Charleston gave Hofstra the eighth seed.

Stony Brook (7-7-4, 4-2-3) clinched the sixth seed in the CAA tournament.

Hofstra opened the scoring as Anja Suttner scored her fifth goal of the season, a header off a corner kick from Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir at 26:26. The Seawolves answered 7:31 later when Cote chipped a shot over Hofstra keeper Skylar Kuzmich, who had come out to challenge. Luciana Setteducate had the assist.

The Pride was the aggressors in the second half, outshooting the visitors, 15-3.

Stony Brook, however, netted the winner as Cote sent in a carom off the crossbar on a cross from Catharina von Drigalski at 55:10. Reilly Rich also was credited with an assist.

Seawolves keeper Nicolette Pasquerella made eight saves while Kuzmich had four for the Pride.

Hofstra celebrated Senior Day with Krista Agostinello, Sam Diamond, Allison Mendes, Tanaya Perez, Ellen Halseth, Marlene Fries, Annabel Hofmann, Cailey Welch, Kuzmich and Suttner honored before the game.

Hofstra will face top-seeded Monmouth in the quarterfinals at Monmouth on Thursday at 3 p.m.
