The bad news is that New York City FC midfielder Alfredo Morales will miss Sunday’s MLS Cup Playoff game at CF Montreal with a calf injury.

Head coach Nick Cushing said on Friday that Morales wasn’t fit to play in the Eastern Conference semifinal (ESPN, 1 p.m.).

The good news for the team is midfielder-forward Talles Magno is a go and outside back Tayvon Gray is questionable. Magno missed Monday’s 3-0 home win over Inter Miami CF with an upper body injury, while Gray is recovering from a lower body injury.

“Talles trained this morning, he trained yesterday and today,” Cushing said. “It’s really positive, two days of training. So he’s back in the squad. Tayvon just had a fitness test this morning. We’re waiting on the update. He’ll probably have another run tomorrow and then he’ll be available for the game.”

Cushing said he hadn’t made a final decision on whether he will start Magno, given the team’s superb performance in its 3-0 demolition of Inter Miami CF in the first round at Citi Field on Monday night.

“I think it is 50-50,” he said. “I think ultimately one is 50 percent if is he’s fully fit to play, and he can play 90 minutes. The other 50 percent is the team’s … incredible performance. Heber played not only a huge part in the result with the third goal but also his performance his link-up play, his chemistry with Maxi [Moralez] with Santi [Rodriguez] with Gabriel [Perreira]. It’s a really difficult decision, but we’ll come to a decision that is the best for the team.”
