La Salle University’s Kelli McGroarty netted a first half hat-trick, as the Explorers downed Fordham University, 3-1, in women’s soccer action at Jack Coffey Field on Sunday.
Fordham dropped to 4-8-1 overall, 3-2-1 in the Atlantic 10. La Salle improved to 7-6-1 overall, 2-4-0 in the league.
All the action for the Explorers came over a seven-minute stretch in the first half, as McGroarty scored three times for a 3-0 lead. She tallied assisted in the 34th minute, a goal off a Shea Collins long ball deflection in the 38th minute and then capped her hat-trick in the 41st minute, taking a pass in the box from Sunni DiElmo.
The Rams got on the board in the 79th minute, as Alexandra Taylor dished a pass left, finding Kristen Cocozza. Cocozza found the top right corner of the net from 18 yards for her team-leading fourth of the season.
La Salle goalkeeper Michela Auguadro made six saves while Maria O’Sullivan had four for the Rams.
Fordham visit Davidson College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
