In a battle between two of the top teams in the Colonial Athletic Association that each boasted seven-game unbeaten streaks, it was the Hofstra University men who rallied for a 2-1 victory over UNCW at UNCW Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, N.C. on Saturday night.

The Pride, which moved into a first-place tie in the CAA, scored twice in the final 12 minutes with Francesco Perinelli netting the game-winner.

Hofstra (8-2-1, 4-1-1) extended its unbeaten streak to eight games. The Seahawks slipped to 4-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the CAA.

Neither team could break through in a scoreless first half, though the Pride attempted nine shots.

The hosts grabbed the lead in the 73rd minute before the Pride rallied.

Hofstra was awarded a penalty kick five minutes later and Eliot Goldthorp converted to tie the game. Goldthorp has 10 goals this season and has six goals in his past three games.

With just under four minutes to play, Perinelli forced a turnover deep in the Pride’s offensive end and ran down the ball and scored his first goal of the season to put the Pride on top.

Hofstra goalkeeper Wessel Speel had three saves UNCW keeper Gabriel Perrotta posted five saves.

The Pride returns to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home against Saint Joseph’s University.
