The Hofstra University men scored four second-half goals, three by Eliot Goldthorp, to snap a 1-1 halftime tie en route to a 5-1 victory over Columbia University at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium in Manhattan on Tuesday night.

Oliver Svalander added two goals and one assist as the Pride (6-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak to seven games. Columbia slipped to 1-5-3.

Svalander scored the Pride’s first goal in the eighth minute. The Lions tied the score in the 34th minute on Ryan Kipness’ penalty kick.

Goldthorp tallied score back-to-back penalty kicks in the 56th and 59 minutes for a 3-1 margin. Svalander notched his second of the game off a pass from Hendrik Hebbeker in the 64th minute. Goldthorp completed his first career hat-trick two minutes later with Svalander getting the assist.

Hhe has five goals in his last two games and the hat-trick was Hofstra’s first since Ryan Carmichael’s against William & Mary on Sept. 25, 2021.

The Hofstra defense limited the Lions to four shots and two on goal. Hofstra goalkeeper Wessel Speel made one first-half save. Columbia’s Andreas Zamanian had five saves.

Hofstra visits CAA-rival UNCW on Saturday at 7 p.m.
