Ellen Halseth finished with a hat-trick and added an assist, leading six goal-scorers as the Hofstra University women opened defense of their Colonial Athletic Association title with an 8-0 victory over Hampton Thursday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

The eight goals were one shy of tying the program record and Halseth was one goal short of equaling the Pride mark.

Hofstra (5-2-1, 1-0-0) dominated play right from the start as Dagny Run Petursdottir opened the scoring just 2:43 into the game with her first career goal. Halseth followed just over five minutes later with an unassisted goal to make it 2-0. Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir found the back of the net off assists from Halseth and Olivia Pearse at 22:11 to give the Pride a 3-0 cushion against Hampton (2-6, 0-1).

Halseth and Wiktoria Fronc teamed up on back-to-back goals 24 seconds apart (29:35 and 29:59) to complete her hat-trick and make it a 5-0 game. Anja Suttner converted a penalty kick at 32:24 to cap the first half scoring.

The second half saw the Pride get goals from Matilda Liljefors at 68:55 and Leah Iglesias at 86:13. Liljefors blooped a shot over the head of Hampton keeper Olexia Mitchell with Tanaya Perez and Aimee Hodgson notching assists, while Iglesias sent in a shot from distance that came in just under the crossbar.

Three Hofstra keepers – Skylar Kuzmich (45:00), Mackenzie Sullivan (24:39) and Avery Holden (20:21) – did not face a shot on goal as the Pride defense allowed just one shot in the game, which was blocked.

Mitchell had 10 saves.

The Pride outshot the visitors, 32-1.

Hofstra hosts the College of William & Mary at noon on Sunday.
