Another game, another loss for Gotham FC.

Megan Rapinoe connected for the lone goal off a penalty kick as OL Reign defeated NJ/NY Gotham FC in a National Women’s Soccer League match at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. on Wednesday night.

The result further buried Gotham in the league basement with a 4-16 record and 12 points. The New Jersey side needs a draw or a defeat in its final two matches of the regular season to cement itself in last place for the season.

Third-place Reign (34) improved to 9-4-7.

The visitors were awarded a penalty kick in the 57th minute after Gotham defender Ali Krieger collided with Reign midfielder Jess Fishlock in the box.

Rapinoe, the NWSL August player of the month, drilled a shot just inside the left middle of the goal as goalkeeper Michelle Betos dove in the opposition direction.

The goal was Rapinoe’s sixth in her last six matches.

OL Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who finished with three saves, recorded a clean sheet. She has seven shutouts this season, tied for first.
