U.S. men’s national team midfielder Johnny Cardoso has been added to the training camp roster prior to the upcoming pre-World Cup matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia.

He replaces Yunus Musah, who has been diagnosed with a left groin injury and won’t be ready in time to participate.

Cardoso, 20, has earned three caps, last appearing in the 1-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina to close out a highly successful 2021. The victory was the 17th of the year for the USMNT, surpassing the previous record of 16 wins which was set in 2013.

The USMNT will face fellow World Cup finalist Japan on Sept. 23 at the Düsseldorf Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany. Kickoff is set for 8:26 a.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN+ (8 a.m. ET), UniMás and TUDN (8:20 a.m. ET).

Four days later, the team will be in Murcia, Spain to meet Saudi Arabia on Sept. 27 at the Estadio Nueva Condomina. Coverage on FS1, UniMás and TUDN begins at 1:30 p.m. ET, with the match kicking off at 2 p.m. ET.
