New York City Football Club Sunday announced that it has signed defender Stephen Turnbull to a short-term contract, joining on loan from MLS NEXT Pro affiliate New York City FC II.

Per MLS rules, the short-term contract allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League and exhibition matches. A player can sign a maximum of four short-term contracts per season and appear in no more than two league season matches.

Turnbull has started 19 out of 20 games for NYCFCII, logging 1,723 minutes. The right back has scored a five goals, third best among league defenders and has provided three assists.

The Holtsville, N.Y. native and Sachem East High School standout played at Stony Brook University, competing in 55 games and captaining the side, before signing with NYCFC II on Feb. 14.

Turnbull will join the team ahead of its match at the New England Revolution Sunday.
