A day after Barnsley announced that Tom Edwards had joined the club on loan from Stoke City, the Red Bulls announced Friday mutually agreed to terminate the loan of the defender.

Edwards, 23, joined the Red Bulls on loan from Stoke City in February. Over the last two seasons, he made 47 appearances and logged 3,618 minutes. Edwards tallied three assists in 44 starts, with his last assist coming on May 7 against Portland Timbers.

“We would like to thank Tom for his time with the club,” Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement. “We wish him and his family all the best in the future – both on and off the pitch.”

The Red Bulls host MLS Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union at Red Bull Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
