New York City FC Friday announced that it has claimed midfielder Matias Pellegrini off MLS waivers.

Pellegrini joins the club through the remainder of the 2022 season.

The Magdalena, Argentina native most recently played for Club Estudiantes de La Plata in Argentina where he was on loan from Inter Miami CF.

Pellegrini, 21, appeared in 20 matches in MLS, MLS Cup Playoffs and in the MLS is Back Tournament during the 2020 season for Inter Miami CF before joining Club Estudiantes de La Plata on loan for the 2021-22 season. He appeared in 42 games across all competitions, including the Copa Libertadores, scoring four goals.

The right-footed, 5-1, 159-lb. midfielder also has represented the Argentinian national team at the Under-17 and U-20 levels.

Pellegrini will travel to New York City and join the rest of the squad ahead of the away match against Orlando City SC on Sunday.
