Caprice Dydasco’s former NJ/NY Gotham FC teammates must be envious of the defender.
Dydasco went from an 11th-place side in the National Women’s Soccer League to one of the top teams.
On Friday, the team dealt Dydasco to the Houston Dash for $120,000 in base allocation money. The deal could be worth up to $150,000 for Gotham, earning another $10,000 for each postseason game Dydasco plays in for Houston.
Gotham (12 points) is 4-10-0 amid an abysmal season in which it dispatched its coach.
Houston is 8-0-4 with 28 points.
Dydasco was the 2021 NWSL defender of the Year and NWSL’s Best XI, making 24 starts for Gotham FC and winning more than 60 percent of her tackles. Dydasco also recorded a goal, five assists, 49 clearances and 49 interceptions, the most of any defender in the league. The Honolulu, Hawaii native earned team of the month honors five times during the regular season, most of any players last year.
“Caprice is an extremely talented player and an even better person,” Gotham general manager Yael Averbuch West said in a statement. “She gave everything she had to this team and played a massive role in the transformation of our club. We are so thankful for her contributions and wish her nothing but success in Houston.”
Dydasco appeared in 59 regular season games and 71 matches for Gotham FC.
Gotham FC’s next home match will be against the Orlando Pride at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa. Saturday at 7 p.m.
