The United Women’s Soccer UWS National Championship will take place at Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Mass. in July 23-24.
It will mark the first time the national championship will be held on the East Coast.
Modeled after European stadiums, Lusitano Stadium seats 3,000 fans and was built in 1918, making it the oldest soccer specific-stadium in New England.
The top seed in this season’s East Conference Playoffs, the New England Mutiny, calls the stadium home during the regular season and is two victories away from contending for a national title on its home turf.
Lusitano Stadium is also the home of the New England Pioneers men’s team. The stadium has hosted the USL national finals and Lamar Hunt Open Cup matches.
The National Championship tournament includes the winners of the East, West, Central and South Conferences. Calgary Foothills WFC has advanced as the champion of the West Conference.
Playoffs will take place this weekend across the nation to determine the other three participants.
