There were no church bells ringing after referee Melvin Rivas signified the end of the match, but Red Bulls II actually won a game on Friday night.

Let us repeat that if you don’t believe what you have read.

Red Bulls II recorded a 1-0 victory over Indy Eleven in USL Championship action at MSU Soccer Park in Montclair, N.J.

It was the team’s first win since a 1-0 triumph over Atlanta United on March 16 as NYRBII (2-14-3, 9 points) snapped a 16-game winless streak. Indy (21) dropped to 6-10-3.

Jeremy Rafanello scored the lone goal in the 53rd minute, tapping in a low pass from Jordan Adebayo-Smith. The goal was Rafanello’s third of the season, moving him into a tie with Adebayo-Smith for the team lead. It also marked his 10th with New York and 11th of his professional career.

Adebayo-Smith collected his assist of the season, and his first in his USL Championship career.
Goalkeeper Giannis Nikopolidis earned his first professional victory and first career clean sheet, stopping one shot.

Zach Ryan donned the captain’s armband for the first time in his professional career.

Sam Williams became the first Red Bulls Academy player to play 2,000 career minutes with Red Bulls II, reaching that milestone in the second minute. He is also the all-time leader in matches played by an Academy player at 37.

New York will travel to face Monterey Bay F.C. on Saturday, July 23 at 10 p.m. ET.
