Red Bulls captain and center back Aaron Long has been selected to the roster for the 2022 MLS All-Star Game, the Major League Soccer announced on Tuesday.

Long earned his second MLS All-Star honor, following his first in 2018.

Midfielder Luquinhas, a vital acquisition and part of the team this season, was not named to the 26-player all-star squad.

After returning from a season-ending Achilles injury in 2021, Long has made 17 appearances this season and has scored three goals, tying his career-high. The Oak Hills, Calif. native won a Supporters Shield with the Red Bulls, earned MLS defender of the year and MLS Best XI honors in 2018.

Long was promoted to the first team after leading Red Bulls II to a 2016 USL Championship title and earned the 2016 USL defender of the year award. He has made 135 MLS appearances for club, including nine postseason matches. His 11 goals in MLS regular season play are the most by a defender in franchise history. Long was the first player in club history to sign with Red Bulls II, earn promotion to the senior team and be named captain.

The defender made his return to the U.S. men’s national team on March 10, coming on as a second-half substitute against Mexico in a 2022 World Cup qualifying match.

Long has made 27 international appearances and scored three goals. He was included in their most recent camp in June, where he made starts in four matches against Morocco, Uruguay, El Salvador, and Grenada.

The MLS All-Stars will face off against Liga MX All-Stars on Wednesday, August 10 at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN and UniMas.
