The Rochester Lady Lancers enter their United Women’s Soccer regular season finale on Sunday with a huge mountain to climb.

They must score eight more goals than the Erie Commodores to claim first place in the Penn-NY Division and a playoff berth.

The Lancers (6-1-2, 20 points), who boast an eight-game unbeaten streak, host the Commodores (5-1-3, 18) at Charles A. Schiano Field in Rochester, N.Y. at 2 p.m. Sunday.

On its website, FC Buffalo (7-1-2, 23) said that it had won the division crown after defeating the Pittsburgh Hotspurs, 4-1, at Founders Field in Cheswick, Pa.

Buffalo has a superior goal differential, plus 16 to plus 9.

According to a story on the UWS website that was posted prior to the week, Rochester can erase Buffalo’s four-goal advantage via goal differential. Now, it is a seven-goal advantage.

On Saturday night, 16-year-old Grand Island, N.Y. native Ella Rudney, who will attend her senior year of high school in the fall, paced Buffalo with two goals and an assist in her team debut. She set up captain Carissima Cutrona’s team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Hannah Callaghan also scored for FCB, while University at Buffalo teammate Payton Robertson recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Jessica Jones (Canisius College) made several saves.
