Red Bulls II’s 3-0 home loss to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Friday night was the last straw.

On Saturday, the USL Championship team announced it had parted ways with head coach Gary Lewis, effective immediately.

Assistant coach Ibrahim Sekagya, a former Red Bulls defender, will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

NYRBII, which had developed a reputation for playing competitive soccer and developing many players for the Red Bulls and other MLS clubs, has been abysmal this season as it has recorded a 1-13-3 mark.

“We’d like to thank Gary for his time with the club and wish him the best in all of his future endeavors,” Red Bulls Academy Director Sean McCafferty said in a statement.

Red Bulls II will travel to face Louisville City FC on Saturday, July 9 at 8 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN+.
