The National Women’s Soccer League Monday announced that Portland Thorns FC midfielder Sam Coffey was voted the June rookie of the month as voted by the NWSL Media Association.

Selected in the second round of the 2021 NWSL Draft, Coffey’s first career monthly honor came after the midfielder enjoyed a productive month that saw her tally her first point of the regular season with an assist in Portland’s 2-2 tie with San Diego Wave FC.

A crucial component of a Portland offense that registered a 15-2 goal differential this month, the midfielder also registered six shots and maintained an 85 percent passing accuracy rate throughout June, the highest of any player in the league.

A Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. native, Coffey was one of 26 players selected to represent the U.S. for two  friendlies against Colombia.

The NWSL rookie of the month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
