Brentwood Premier Man City came back from a three-goals deficit to win the Howard Rubenstein Cup as Boys Under-14 State Cup champions of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y. on June 4.

Brentwood tied Stony Brook LGN Wildings, 3-3, in regulation and overtime and prevailed in the shootout, 4-3.

Now residing in Kentucky, Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the U.S. Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.

“An amazing game!” Brentwood coach Oscar Carrillo said. “A hard-fought game against an opponent that competes well.”

Dylan Blanco, Diego Argueta and Edson Jean scored Brentwood’s goals. They were State Cup champs last year as well and made it all the way to the national championship game.

Brentwood will represent ENYYSA at the East Regionals from June 24-30 in Charleston and Barboursville, W. Va. as part of the National Championship Series.

Stony Brook LGN received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a U.S. Soccer Life Member who died six years ago, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland.
