B.W. Gottschee Pre-Academy Blue defeated East Coast Boca Juniors, 5-2, to win the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association Boys Under-12 State Open Cup championship and the Luis Montoya Cup at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y. on June 4.

Anthony Puk scored three goals and Ray Elezi and Arman Kolenovic added one apiece to pace B/W Gottschee.

“Our team is fantastic and our players are resilient,” Gottschee coach Alex Fatovic said. “After going down a goal on a penalty kick, we scored right away. I really love these kids.”

Gottschee will represent Eastern New York at the East Regionals from June 24 to 30 in Charleston and Barboursville, West Virginia as part of the National Championship Series.

Montoya founded the Big Apple Youth Soccer League in 1997 to serve the growing number of soccer families who recently arrived in New York City. He had two tours of duty as trustee of ENYYSA serving two residents, Barry Salter and Richard Christiano, before his passing last summer.
