The problem with successful coaches is that other teams become interested.

Case in point: Ronny Deila.

Last year Deila directed New York City FC to its first MLS Cup title.

At least one team – Standard Liege – in Belgium wants the 46-year-old Deila to coach its team for the upcoming season, according to La Libre, a Belgium newspaper.

The paper reported that the club “is approaching an agreement for the arrival of the Norwegian.”

Of course, there is one slight problem. The MLS season is still going on and NYCFC is in first place in the Eastern Conference with an 8-3-2 record and 26 points, one points ahead of the Philadelphia Union.

La Libre said that “Deila wants to join Standard at all costs. It comes back to us that he would have already taken information on certain Liège players.”

Deila also would bring NYCFC assistant coach Efrain Juarez with him, the newspaper reported.

City is in the midst of an international break and will return to action against the Colorado Rapids at Yankee Stadium on June 19.
