New York City FC knows its opponent in the Campeones Cup final.
Following Atlas FC’s Clausura 2022 Final win Sunday night and earning the Campeón de Campeones crown given the club’s back-to-back Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022 season wins, Atlas FC will represent LIGA MX and face the Cityzens on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Yankee Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET to decide the Campeones Cup.
In its fourth edition, the 2022 Campeones Cup will feature the reigning MLS Cup champion NYCFC, against Atlas FC, LIGA MX’s Campeón de Campeones, which was determined in Pachuca in the return leg of the 2022 Clausura Final. Atlas FC defeated Pachuca, 3-2, at Estadio Hidalgo, claiming back-to-back LIGA MX titles. Atlas FC defeated Club Leon in December 2021 to win the 2021 Apertura season.
Campeones Cup was launched in 2018.
MLS leads the series, 2-1. Tigres UANL defeated Toronto FC in the inaugural 2018 edition, Atlanta United beat Club America 3-2 in the exciting 2019 match, and the Columbus Crew overcame Cruz Azul 2-0 last year.
Campeones Cup will be broadcast on Univision and ESPN2 in the United States and TUDN platforms in Mexico.
