Not even a win in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup could save the job of Hernán Losada.

D.C. United gave Losada the axe on Wednesday morning, according to The Athletic.

Assistant coach Chad Ashton was named interim coach, sources told The Athletic.

After a 2-0 start, D.C. has lost four successive MLS games and finds itself at the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference with a 2-4 mark. On Saturday, United failed to hold onto a two-goal lead and allowed Austin FC to score three goals in the final 10 minutes en route to a 3-2 defeat.

On Tuesday night, D.C. blanked the the Flower City Union of the third division National Independent Soccer Association in the third round of the Open Cup in Rochester, N.Y., 3-0.

But the powers that be at United already had seen enough.

Losada’s sacking is the second MLS coach given his walking papers in three days. On Monday, the San Jose Earthquakes gave Matias Almeyda the boot.
