METUCHEN, N.J. — After a successful inaugural season in UWS League Two, Paisley Athletic FC is being promoted to the first division of the national pro-am league.
The club will field a first team to compete in UWS League One and a reserve team to compete in UWS2. The team will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Division of League One alongside Coppermine United, Keystone FC, Lancaster Inferno and New Jersey Copa FC.
The schedule will be released this week.
“We are excited to promote Paisley Athletic FC to UWS,” league commissioner Joe Ferrara said in a statement. “The organization has demonstrated that it meets all the necessary minimum standards that we look for in our teams.”
Paisley Athletic FC’s women’s team finished the 2021 season as runners-up in the Northeast Conference of UWS League Two. The squad was the first women’s team competing in UWS to be based out of Kearny — known affectionately as Soccertown, USA. The club was founded on the promise of developing a community of athletes and supporters committed to advancing women’s soccer on and off the field.
The Paisley Athletic FC Ownership Group released the following statement on the club’s promotion:
“We are excited to expand Paisley Athletic FC’s presence in UWS by fielding teams in both UWS and UWS2 in the upcoming 2022 season. Through this expansion, we look forward to deepening our relationship with UWS and creating more opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest levels of the women’s game.”
Paisley Athletic FC will play its home games at Kearny High School (336 Devon St. Kearny, N.J. 07032).
