Scratch Brenden Aaronson from the U.S. men’s national team roster for this World Cup qualifying window.
The Red Bull Salzburg midfielder had knee problems during warmups prior to Salzburg’s Austrian Bundesliga match on Sunday.
There will be no additions to the USMNT roster, which now stands at 27.
“After reviewing the updated medical information and in consultation with Red Bull Salzburg, we have determined that Brenden Aaronson would not be available to play in the upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches,” U.S. Soccer said in a statement. “We were hopeful he would be able to recover in time; unfortunately, that will not be the case. We hope he makes a speedy recovery.”
ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman reported later in the day that Aaronson suffered an MCL injury that he will miss two to four weeks.
The USMNT plays at Mexico on Thursday, hosts Panama in Orlando, Fla. on Sunday and visits Costa Rica on March 30.
