Christian Pulisic’s status for Chelsea’s game against Newcastle United on Sunday is unknown.

The U.S. men’s national team standout missed the Blues’ 3-1 win at Norwich City on Thursday with an illness. The exact nature was not specified.

“Pulisic had two bad nights, felt sick and had a change of body temperature,” Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said during a media briefing on Friday. “He felt hot, then cold, then hot, then cold. He did not feel good this morning and we decided to leave him at home and hopefully get rest and good sleep and get back soon.”

With the final three games of World Cup qualifying looming later this month, the USMNT needs the 23-year-old in top form.

The Americans will visit Mexico on March 24, host Panama in Orlando, Fla. on March 27 and close out the Concacaf Octagonal on March 30.
