HARRISON, N.J. – Red Bulls II have signed defender Daniel De Leon to a USL Championship contract, the club announced Wednesday.

The contract is pending USL Championship and U.S. Soccer approval.

De Leon, 21, most recently played for Vlora FC in the United Premier Soccer League. He also spent time with Asociación Deportiva San Carlos U-20 in Costa Rica.

“We’re excited to have Daniel join the group,” Red Bulls II head coach Gary Lewis said. “He has the attributes that we are looking for defensively, in the air, and technically. We’re excited for him to grow throughout the season with the team.”

During his time in Costa Rica, De Leon scored two goals and added three assists in six months.

“I can’t wait to get going this season with a great group of guys,” De Leon said in a statement. “We have a hungry group that’s ready to win.”

The 6-2, 178-lb. De Leon started all four preseason matches, logging 302 minutes and a goal.
