HARRISON, N.J. – Red Bulls II Tuesday signed forward Jonathan Filipe to a USL Championship contract pending league and federation approval, the club announced.

Filipe, 23, scored 19 goals and tallied nine assists over 59 matches and 4,546 minutes at Fairfield University from 2018-21.

“Jonathan has been a great addition,” Red Bulls head coach Gary Lewis said in a statement. “He has great energy and enthusiasm, speed and quality, and a front-foot mentality against the ball and with the ball.”

Th 5-8, 151-lb. Filipe, a Red Bulls Academy product, most recently played for the Under-23 squad during the 2021 USL League Two season. He scored four goals and collected two assists in eight matches and 589 minutes.

“I’m looking forward to the year. We’ve been given a great opportunity here,” Filipe said. “We have a great team; I’m looking forward to joining and taking part in what we aim to do.”

The Danbury, Conn. native played in all four preseason matches, logging three starts, 315 minutes and a team-leading three goals.
