U.S. international Gio Reyna saw competitive action for the first time in five months on Sunday.
The 19-year-old attacking player replaced midfielder Thorgan Hazard in the 61st minute of Borussia Dortmund’s 5-2 home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
It was Reyna’s first appearance for the club since August after incurring a hamstring injury while performing for the USMNT in World Cup qualifying in September.
He came close to finding the net in the 80th minute by his one-on-one opportunity was denied by goalkeeper Lennart Grill. He set up Jude Bellingham, but the latter’s attempt was blocked.
Reyna, who touched the ball 27 times, went 19-for-19 in passing.
His last competitive match was during the USA’s WCQ opener, a scoreless draw at El Salvador on Sept. 2.
