Cedar Stars has joined the USL W League for the 2022 season.

The New Jersey-based club, which will call Tinton Falls, N.J. home, will compete in the league’s inaugural campaign, it was announced on Monday.

With six locations across the New Jersey and New York metro area, Cedar Stars Academy is home to more than 2,500 elite athletes in the region.

“Cedar Stars is excited to join the USL W League in its inaugural season,” Cedar Stars Academy general manager and sporting director Juan Santamaria said iin a statement. “We are thrilled to be able to provide additional opportunities for talented young women within our academy, community and beyond.”

Through Capelli Sport and its owner George Altirs, Cedar Stars has a direct affiliate link to professional women’s club HB Køge of Denmark. HB Køge recently participated in the Women’s Champions League and will provide additional professional opportunities for players to play overseas.

Cedar Stars has a home venue at the new Capelli Sport Complex in Tinton Falls, N.J. The Capelli Sport Complex includes four outdoor soccer fields, one full-size indoor field and one grandstand stadium field, which will serve as the home of the Cedar Stars W League team during the 2022 season.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cedar Stars to the W League for the 2022 season,” USL director of women’s soccer operations Betsy Haugh said in a statement. “The club has an established presence in the Northeast and is looking to build on the success of its programming by adding a development pathway to its women’s side. This new opportunity will provide athletes in the metro New Jersey and New York area more possibilities to reach the next level of their game.”
