The Canada men’s national team will face Guatemala in a training match on Jan. 22 prior to three crucial World Cup qualifiers during the January-February window.
The Saturday match will help Canada prepare for matches away against Honduras on Jan. 27, back home in Hamilton, Ontario against USA on Jan. 30 and at El Salvador on Feb. 2.
The Canada-Guatemala match will kick off at 6:30 ET local at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The contest will be broadcast live on OneSoccer, including OneSoccer.ca, Fubo.tv and Telus channel 980.
“Canada Soccer’s men’s national team looks forward to facing Guatemala as part of our crucial preparations for the Concacaf final round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers,” Canada Soccer president Dr. Nick Bontis said in a statement.
The Canadians sit undefeated at the top of the Octagonal table in the Concacaf final round of World Cup qualifiers after their back-to-back victories at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta with a 2-1 victory over Mexico on Nov. 16 and a 1-0 victory over Costa Rica on Nov. 12. The win moved Canada into first place with 16 points from eight matches (4-0-4) ahead of USA (15), Mexico (14) and Panama (14).
Canada Soccer said that it will continue to closely monitor all COVID-19 developments in consultation with the Public Health Agency of Canada and relevant governing bodies through the Canada Soccer Sport Medicine Committee to ensure the safety of all players and staff.
