Former U.S. women’s national team standout Michelle Akers has started a Go Fund Me page for her Horse Rescue and Outreach.

“The pandemic hit us hard and I’m trying to keep my rescue animals in our care and build us back up to continue my animal welfare work,” Akers said. “Appreciate anything you can do to help us.”

As of late Tuesday morning, the fund has raised $29,606 toward its goal of $250,000.

As it turns out, today, Tuesday, Nov. 30, is the 30th anniversary of the USWNT winning the very first Women’s World Cup. Akers scored both goals, including the late game-winner.
