NEW YORK – After playing its first two matches of the 2022 MLS season on the road, New York City FC will play its home opener against CF Montreal at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, March 12.
NYCFC will begin the regular season on the road against the LA Galaxy on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. ET. A week later, the club will play on the road again at the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, March 5 at 6 p.m. ET.
“While our primary focus is currently on the playoffs and bringing the cup to New York City, preparations are already underway to make 2022 our best season yet,” NYCFC CEO Brad Sims said in a statement. Having fans return this year was an incredible boost for our team and the entire Club, and we’re ready to build off our strong momentum from the 2021 season.
“Our fans made a clear statement last night that New York City is a soccer city. They brought incredible energy to Yankee Stadium for our first round playoff win over Atlanta. Our fans really set the tone and are a primary reason why we have the best home field advantage in MLS at Yankee Stadium. We fully expect to build upon our impressive home record in 2022, starting on March 12th against CF Montreal.”
NYCFC opens on the road for the eighth consecutive season and holds a 2-3-2 overall record during the first week of the campaign. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs to start a season – with NYCFC winning in its last four League matches against the Galaxy. NYCFC hosted the Galaxy for the club’s home opener at Yankee Stadium during the 2018 season, resulting in a 2-1 win.
