The Hofstra University women will host a game in the NCAA Division I tournament.

The Pride will host Providence College in the first round Saturday at 1 p.m.

Hofstra (16-3-1, 6-2-0) earned the Colonial Athletic Association’s automatic bid to the Tournament Sunday, topping fourth-seeded Northeastern University, 2-1, to take home the League’s title for the fourth season in the last five, and seventh time overall. Miri Taylor scored the game-winning goal, heading in a feed by Jordan Littleboy in the 58th minute. The goal gave Taylor 42 points for the season, a Hofstra season record.

The NCAA appearance is Hofstra’s ninth in program history and fifth in the past six seasons. Hofstra is 4-8-1 in NCAA tournament Play. In 2019, Hofstra earned rights to host Loyola Chicago in the first round and defeated the Ramblers, 1-0, in extratime before falling to top-seeded Stanford, 4-0, on the road in the second round.

The Pride has a high-powered offense and stifling defense that has outscored opponents, 45-10. The team is ranked among the top-10 in assists per game, shots per game, shutout percentage and assists. Taylor ranks second nationally with her 42 points this season. She is also third in goals with 16.

Providence is 10-6-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the Big East and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.
