CHICAGO – The National Women’s Soccer League announced Wednesday that NJ/NY Gotham FC forward Midge Purce has been named the player of the month for October by the NWSL Media Association.

Enjoying her best month offensively, Purce recorded three goals, including a brace, to lead Gotham’s scoring effort throughout the month to secure the top scoring spot among Gotham forwards.

Purce tallied the game-winning goal in Gotham FC’s 3-2 win over the Orlando Pride Oct. 9. Registering 17 shots throughout the month, the Olney, Ill. native registered her first brace of the season in Gotham FC’s 3-0 rout of the North Carolina Courage Oct. 17. The two-goal effort earned her player of the week honors for Week 21.

She stretched her scoring total to nine goals in 17 matches, finishing one goal behind 2021 Golden Boot winner Ashley Hatch.

Earning the No. 5 seed for the 2021 NWSL Playoffs, Purce and NJ/NY Gotham FC travel to Purce’s home state to take on the No. 4 seed Chicago Red Stars at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Ill. Sunday at 3 p.m. (CBS Sports Network).

Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman finished second in voting after scoring three goals, while Red Stars defender Sarah Gorden took third after appearing in every minute of play throughout October.

The NWSL player of the month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
