HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Lucy Porter recorded a hat-trick over 10 minutes and added two assists to power the Hofstra University women to a 6-0 victory over the College of Charleston in their Colonial Athletic Association regular season finale at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Hofstra (14-3-1, 6-2-1) also saw goals from freshman Georgia Brown, junior Ellen Halseth and senior Miri Taylor, while Taylor also recorded a pair of second half assists against Charleston (3-12-3, 2-6-1).
Also finding their way onto the stat sheet was fifth-year forward Lucy Shepherd, fifth-year midfielder Jordan Littleboy, and fifth-year forward Amanda Ebbesson who tallied two, one, and one assists, respectively.
The Pride posted a 34-1 advantage in total shots and 18-0 shots on goal margin.
After several close chances early on, Brown finally knocked the door down when she was left wide open in front of the net before blasting home her sixth goal. Hofstra continued to control the pace throughout the remainder of the half but held a 1-0 halftime edge.
Hofstra put the gas pedal through the floor in the second frame, pouring on five goals in a 15-minute span. Halseth doubled Hofstra’s lead with a tap-in goal in front of the net in the 62nd minute before Porter finished off a through ball by Taylor minutes later for a comfortable three-goal lead.
Porter capitalized on a Taylor assist for the fourth goal. Four minutes later, the scoring switched and Taylor gently flicked in a header following a forward chip by Porter. Porter put the icing on the cake with her third goal, a penalty kick in the 77th minute.
The Pride will participate in the CAA Championship at Elon University. Hofstra will be the No. 2 seed and will take on the No. 3 seed, James Madison University in the second semifinal matchup Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
