HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Matthew Vowinkel scored two goals and added an assist, and Ryan Carmichael continued his scoring run with a goal and an assist as the No. 19 Hofstra University men recorded a 4-0 victory over visiting Lafayette at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Tuesday night.

Hofstra extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games (9-0-1) and climbed to 12-1-1 on the season. Lafayette fell to 7-6-2. The team’s 10-game unbeaten streak is the longest since the 1997 squad put together a 13-game streak.

The Pride completed their non-conference schedule with a 9-0 mark and improved to 7-0 at home

Carmichael’s goal was his NCAA-leading 13th of the year and was his 11th goal in the last seven games.

Hofstra got on the board as Vowinkel converted a penalty kick at 32:01. The graduate forward extended the lead when he put in a rebound of Carmichael’s shot at 37:33.

Vowinkel scored for the first time in seven games and recorded his second multi-goal game of the season.

Mason Tatafu, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association rookie of the week, made it a 3-0 game at 66:59 when he headed a corner kick from Lorenzo Selini past goalkeeper Griffin Huff. The assist was Selini’s first career point.

Carmichael closed out the scoring at 78:01, finishing a fine passing sequence that started in the Hofstra end. Shane Salmon sent a long pass to Vowinkel outside the center of the box. He flicked the ball on to a streaking Carmichael, who lofted a shot over Huff’s head into the goal.

Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel was barely tested in as the Leopards managed two shots on goal. The sophomore recorded his fifth shutout of the season.
