A number of familiar names in the metropolitan area are on one of the three eligibility lists for election into the National Soccer Hall of Fame for 2022.

They included former U.S. women’s national team player Yael Averbuch, who is the interim general manager of NJ/NY Gotham FC, Brooklyn, N.Y. resident Shalrie Joseph, a standout defensive midfielder in Major League Soccer, former Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry on the player eligibility list.

Former New York Cosmos and New York Arrow goalkeeper Shep Messing, currently the president of the Major Arena Soccer League and a TV analyst of Red Bulls games, and former MetroStar/Red Bulls midfielder-forward Clint Mathis.
