CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Indepedence scored twice within a minute to doom Red Bulls II to another defeat, a 2-1 USL Championship at American Legion Memorial Stadium Saturday night.
Red Bulls II (21 points) dropped to 5-17-6 while Charlotte Independence (49) to 15-9-4.
New York got on the scoreboard in the third minute, as midfielder Jake LaCava flicked a ball from outside the box that was played into the net by Charlotte defender Hugh Roberts for an own goal.
Early in the second half, Charlotte forward Irvin Parra drew a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Goalkeeper AJ Marcucci recorded a double save and midfielder Daniel Edelman cleared the ball out of play on the third chance.
Charlotte evened the score in the 66th minute, as midfielder Joel Johnson played a ball into the penalty area that fell right in front of the net, where midfielder Enzo Martínez capitalized for his fifth goal of the season.
One minute later, Charlotte took the lead as forward Irvin Parra headed in a feed from midfielder Jake Areman.
Marcucci recorded six saves, marking the fourth time this season he has recorded at least six saves in a match.
Defender Issiar Dramé made his debut with NYRB II.
New York will travel to face the division-leading Tampa Bay Rowdies Fridayat 7:30 p.m.
