QUEENS, N.Y. – Facing off against reigning Big East champions, the St. John’s University women saw Georgetown University convert on a second-half goal to come away with a 1-0 victory at Belson Stadium Sunday.
Gia Vicari scored the lone goal, her eighth of the year, for Georgetown (8-0-6, 4-0-2) in the 53rd minute. The Red Storm fell to 6-4-2, 2-2-1.
On the visitors’ ninth corner kick, Maya Fernandez-Powell sent the ball into the box. St. John’s sophomore Ava Collins attempted to clear it out, but Vicari quickly corralled the rebound before sending it past goalkeeper Lipkens to put the Hoyas on top.
St. John’s travels to Marquette University for an 8 p.m. Thursday.
